Microsoft Corp intends to cut 1,900 jobs across various video game sectors, including Activision Blizzard, which it acquired last year for $69 billion.
In an email to employees that Bloomberg News said it had seen, Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, said the number of jobs to be cut represents about 8% of the total gaming sector workforce, which is approximately 22,000 employees.
Spencer wrote: "Together, we prioritize, identify redundant areas, and make sure we pursue the best growth opportunities."
This comes as Blizzard Entertainment is implementing a major change as part of a job-cutting plan and has canceled the game called "Odyssey."
This also comes as Microsoft Corp's market value reached $3 trillion on Tuesday, the latest indication of investor optimism about the giant company's future performance, especially in artificial intelligence.
Bloomberg News reported that Microsoft's stock rose 1.3% to $403.95, bringing the company's total market value to $3 trillion.
This increase strengthens Microsoft's position as one of the largest publicly traded companies globally.
