The Teacher Regulation Commissioner in British Columbia issued a decision approving the ban from work for a lifetime teacher due to his conviction for possession of child pornography in British Columbia, and he admitted to a series of facts regarding the criminal case. As stated in the commissioner's decision, "Bowering acted unethically and violated the teaching profession's ethics by breaking laws that protect children from sexual exploitation."
On February 28, 2021, the police searched Bowering's house and confiscated videos, photos, and writings that the police decided were consistent with child exploitation in pornography.
It also pointed out that Bowering did not inform the school of the police search he was subjected to and continued teaching, adding that he was arrested during the March break and began a leave shortly after.
Security investigations revealed that his certification was revoked in January 2022 and he was expelled by the North Vancouver school district in February 2022. On January 31, 2023, a verdict was issued against Bowering after he admitted to his act and the charges of possession of child pornography, and he was sentenced to 10 months of conditional imprisonment followed by two years of supervision.
