The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, announced today, Friday, the dissolution of the National Assembly and the suspension of some provisions of the constitution for a period not exceeding 4 years.
In a speech directed to the Kuwaiti people broadcast by the official television, Prince Meshal added that the disruption of the political scene in the country has reached a stage that cannot be ignored.
He explained that "Kuwait has gone through difficult times in the past period that have affected all levels.
He pointed out that there has been a severe misuse of language that does not align with the customs and traditions of the people of Kuwait.
He continued: "I say it to you frankly that respecting the security men is part of respecting the system of governance."
Prince Meshal said: "We have faced unimaginable difficulties and obstacles," according to what was reported by the Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Qabas."
He added: "We have noticed in previous periods, and just a few days ago, behaviors and actions that contradicted the established constitutional facts."
He went on to say: "The transgressions have reached unacceptable and intolerable limits."
The Emir of Kuwait affirmed that everyone should know that no one is above the law."
He continued: "I will never allow democracy to be exploited to destroy the state."
