Lebanese security arrested a Syrian who harassed a British journalist last week in Beirut and "tried to rape her" according to what was reported by "M.M" in a statement issued yesterday, Monday, by the "Internal Security Forces," stating that the arrested person made confessions that are emotionally disturbing and shocking.

"M.M" had harassed the journalist on the evening of March 28 when he saw her exercising by walking in the central Beirut area, facing the sea. He pounced on her, tore her clothes, beat her, and tried to strangle her. Then he fled into the darkness of the night to an unknown location when passersby intervened at the scene, some of whom later took her to a hospital where doctors treated her for a nervous breakdown, as well as cuts and bruises on various parts of her body.

Afterwards, the security forces investigated the site of the assault and last Sunday reached the identification of "M.M"'s residence in the "Karintina" neighborhood near the Beirut sea. They monitored him for hours, which ended with his arrest "and the seizure of the bicycle he was riding at the time of the assault," according to what "Al Arabiya.net" summarized from the Internal Security Forces' statement about "M.M," who was born 27 years ago in Syria.

Upon interrogation, he confessed that he tried to rape the journalist in the waterfront area, opposite the "Kids Mundo" building, known as a children's amusement city. He also admitted that for eight months he habitually chased girls "to harass them and touch their bodies, especially foreigners, and that he sometimes took off his clothes on public roads and committed acts contrary to decency and public morals in front of them, and that he carried out more than 30 harassment incidents." Therefore, the Public Security Directorate circulated his picture and requested that those who have been victims contact them.
