A Toronto police officer and a suspect in custody died after a shooting in broad daylight in Mississauga and Milton. Peel Police said Monday afternoon that one person was taken to hospital following a double shooting incident that occurred in Mississauga, in the Argentia Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard area, around 2:15 p.m.
Multiple sources later confirmed to CTV News and CP24 that a Toronto police officer was shot dead in Mississauga, as the officer was in the area participating in unspecified training and the shooting is believed to have occurred near Tim Hortons. Police issued a public alert about the shooter Monday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, police said they were searching for a suspect described as a slim Black man with black hair who was wearing an all-black jacket. Police said he was armed and dangerous, and it is "critical" that anyone who sees the suspect or his vehicle immediately call 911. The suspect's vehicle was described as a black Jeep Cherokee with license plate # CLMZ 905.
