Former Foreign Minister John Baird recently served as co-chair of Pierre Poilievre's leadership campaign, and Baird told John Ivison, the Canadian journalist and writer, during an interview that his protégé has the ability to unite the Conservative Party, cross the aisle in Parliament, and deal with hostile media in due time.
Baird stated: "My advice to him is to do more in English Canada because he is an effective speaker of his vision for the country and the party. Surely, there will be many people with different ideological and intellectual views, but everyone must work together for the public interest. Also, in the speech Poilievre gave upon his victory, he mentioned many new ideas and directions for the party's future, and he even welcomed dialogue with many figures who did not welcome him as party leader. I think it is best for him to focus on his choices and visions, whether for the party or for Canada."
