Israeli media reported today, Monday, that the airstrike that hit a car in the Mezzeh neighborhood of the Syrian capital Damascus was targeting the Secretary-General of the "Islamic Jihad" Movement, Ziad al-Nakhaleh.

It added: "The Israeli Air Force launched an airstrike with a drone on a car in the Mezzeh area of Damascus, which had members of the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, in the car, including Ziad al-Nakhaleh," claiming that all those in the car were killed.

Additionally, media reported that a person was killed due to a car explosion in the Mezzeh area of the Syrian capital Damascus, as initial information indicates that it was an assassination operation carried out by Israel with a missile.

A local official in the Damascus governorate told the Syrian newspaper "Al-Watan" that the explosion occurred due to "aggression targeting the Eastern Roundabout area near the Golden Mezzeh Hotel," and our correspondent confirmed that the targeting caused the car to catch fire completely.

Sources told "Sputnik" agency that the person targeted by the Israeli aggression on Damascus had just left the mourning event held for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

The "Syrian Observatory" also mentioned that this is the fourth assassination operation that has taken place in the Mezzeh neighborhood this month.
