Several Western countries issued statements condemning the killing of dozens of Palestinians who were waiting for an aid convoy in Gaza on Thursday.
France said that the shooting of more than 100 Palestinians while they were waiting for aid is "unjustified" and the facts related to the incident must be clarified.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lemoine, stated in a statement that "Israel bears the responsibility to comply with international law rules and protect the distribution of humanitarian aid to the civilian population."
Macron comments
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed in the early hours of Friday the "strongest condemnation" of the killing of Palestinians during the distribution of humanitarian aid in northern Gaza Strip, calling for clarifying the "truth" of what happened and achieving "justice" for the victims.
Macron wrote in a post on the X social media platform, "Deep outrage at the images coming from Gaza where civilians were targeted by Israeli soldiers. I express my strongest condemnation of these shootings and demand truth, justice, and respect for international law."
Canada describes what happened to the aid convoy in Gaza as a "nightmare"
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said that the killing of dozens of people who were waiting for an aid convoy in Gaza is a "nightmare" and called for ending the fighting in the sector.
Joly added to reporters in Ottawa, "When it comes to what happened in Gaza today... I have to say I think this is a nightmare. We must ensure the delivery of international aid to Gaza and that people are protected when they go and receive that aid."
Turkey: Israel committed a new crime against humanity
On Thursday, Turkey described the events that led to the killing of more than one hundred people according to Hamas movement during the distribution of food aid in Gaza City as a "new crime against humanity".
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that "Israel has added a new crime to its crimes against humanity."
The statement continued: "The fact that Israel, which condemned Gaza's population to starvation, targeted this time innocent civilians standing in lines to receive humanitarian aid is proof that (Israel) intentionally seeks to destroy the entire Palestinian people."
Spain: What happened in Gaza is "unacceptable"
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares condemned what happened in Gaza on Thursday and said via the X platform that "the unacceptable nature of what happened in Gaza, where dozens of Palestinian civilians die while waiting to receive food, confirms the urgent need for a ceasefire."
According to health authorities in Gaza, more than 100 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces' bullets while waiting for aid on Thursday at Al-Nabulsi roundabout near Al-Rashid Street, but Israel questioned the number of dead and said many of them died because aid trucks ran over them.
According to Palestinian health officials, at least 112 people were killed and more than 280 others injured in the incident.
Medical teams reported that they are unable to cope with the scale and nature of the injuries, as dozens of the wounded were transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital, which is only partially functioning after the Israeli airstrikes on it.
Borrell condemns the "new massacre" in Gaza
On Thursday, the EU Foreign Policy Coordinator Josep Borrell condemned what happened in Gaza during an aid distribution operation, stating via the X platform, "I am horrified by reports of another massacre among civilians in Gaza who are in dire need of humanitarian aid," adding that the deaths "are completely unacceptable."
He stressed that "depriving people of humanitarian aid constitutes a serious violation" of international humanitarian law, adding, "Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach Gaza without obstacles."
