The Indian Express newspaper revealed the first possible death of a man confirmed to have monkeypox, after his death in a hospital in India.

According to what the newspaper quoted from Veena George, the head of the Health Department of Kerala state, the 22-year-old man died on Saturday, days after returning from the UAE. It is noted that he was diagnosed with monkeypox while he was abroad.

George added that "the young man did not show any symptoms of monkeypox. He was transferred to the hospital due to encephalitis symptoms.. His relatives only received the test result on Saturday. The causes of death will be investigated.. because the mortality rate from monkeypox is very low."

The man was buried according to the burial rules for monkeypox victims. People who were in contact with him recently are under observation, and the newspaper mentioned that there are four confirmed cases of monkeypox in India so far.
