The police in Halifax said they made an unspecified number of arrests during a massive street party, attended by thousands near Dalhousie University. The police estimated that a crowd ranging between 3000 and 4000 gathered around 10 PM on Saturday in the areas surrounding Larch, Preston, and Jennings streets as part of an unauthorized event related to a Halifax school celebration. The police also issued a statement today saying that fireworks were ignited in the crowd, and several disturbances and fights occurred among many people who were intoxicated. They added that they had to remove a number of injured individuals from the area, including a man who was stabbed.

Later, the crowd was dispersed after "two hours" of rioting. Although the police did not release any details on the number of arrests, they say that dozens of violations were issued, stating that the disturbances that occurred on Saturday required them to call in additional reserve forces as the size of the gathering increased. The force said that officers who tried to disperse the crowd met resistance. In the same context, a statement issued on Sunday said: "In addition to being hit with projectiles, officers were punched, kicked, and spit on, with a group of them being transported to the hospital with varying injuries, but none serious."
