The Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg concluded his participation in the Munich Security Conference today, Sunday, emphasizing that the world has become more dangerous but NATO has become the strongest military force in the world today.
A statement issued by the alliance quoted Stoltenberg as saying that NATO has become stronger and represents about 50 percent of the total military power in the world, and is militarily stronger than Russia, according to him.
Stoltenberg said that peace cannot be taken for granted, but it is important to clarify that we do not see any imminent threat against any NATO ally, adding that the goal of the North Atlantic Treaty is to prevent the outbreak of war and ensure that there is no room for Moscow to misjudge NATO’s readiness and determination to protect all allies.
He added that the alliance has made it clear that an attack on one ally will lead to a reaction from the entire alliance, so there is no military threat against any NATO ally.
Stoltenberg pointed out that European allies have already intensified their efforts in defense because they realized the need to invest in advanced capabilities, increase troop readiness, after the alliance implemented the largest reinforcements in collective defense in generations through deploying combat groups in the eastern part of the alliance for the first time in its history and adding more high-readiness forces.
Regarding Ukraine, Stoltenberg welcomed the increased assistance by European allies and Canada to Kyiv, and warned of a "vital and urgent" need for the United States to follow their example.
It is noteworthy that the NATO Secretary General held talks with delegations from both the Republican and Democratic parties in the US Senate, and also met with the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, the CEO of Google and Alphabet Sundar Pichai, the Chairman and CEO of Lockheed Martin James Taiclet, and a delegation from Boeing including the President and CEO of Boeing Defense Ted Colbert, Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy Stephen Pigeon, and Dr. Brendan Nelson, Chairman of Boeing Global.
