Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency yesterday evening, Wednesday, in several counties, including Broward, Collier, Lee, Miami-Dade, and Sarasota, due to the continued heavy rain falling on parts of South Florida.

The National Weather Service in Miami said that parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties – including Hallandale and Hollywood – are still experiencing "life-threatening floods" affecting homes, businesses, and roads, according to the American Free channel.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis had earlier declared a state of emergency due to "the continued heavy rainfall" that has flooded major roads.

Trantalis said on social media: "Our emergency management staff is actively monitoring the situation and mobilizing resources throughout the city."

He added that high-water vehicles have been deployed throughout the city to respond as needed, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission will send boats and trucks, but he urged people to stay off the roads if possible.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava declared a state of emergency due to the weather.
Cava said, "As our departments work to ensure the safety of residents and businesses, this is a necessary step to protect the health, safety, and well-being of our entire community."

Rainfall totals reached up to seven inches across Broward and Miami-Dade counties by Wednesday afternoon, with several more inches expected.

Rainfall rates in the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood area reached ten centimeters yesterday afternoon. Sarasota also experienced a rainfall rate of about ten centimeters.
