The Canadian Global Affairs Ministry said that two more Canadians have died in the war between Ukraine and Russia, bringing the total number of Canadians killed in that conflict to 11 people.

The obituary for Alan Derrasb stated that the veteran of the 22nd Royal Regiment of the Canadian Forces and a father of four children died in Ukraine on February 27.

A military source who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media said that Derrasb was providing first aid training in Ukraine and died of illness.

Jean François Ratelle also died in combat, according to his Ukrainian girlfriend, Anna Filipova.

Ratelle, who used the code name Herulf, was from Juliet in Quebec and led a unit of foreign fighters in Ukraine called the Norman Brigade.

The Russian government had originally reported the deaths in social media posts that included photos of the two men and other personal details.
