The official spokesperson for the Israeli army, Jonathan Conricus, stated that the ground operation in the Gaza Strip will be canceled if "Hamas" releases all hostages and surrenders unconditionally.
Conricus said in an interview with Australian ABC Radio: "If Hamas comes out of the hideouts where they are hiding behind Israeli civilians, which they are doing now, and returns all 212 of our hostages and surrenders unconditionally, then the war will end."
He added, "If they don't do that, we may have to go in and finish the job."
Conricus did not answer a question about why the ground attack was postponed despite days of speculation, instead stating that Israeli forces "will work to completely dismantle Hamas" and destroy its military capabilities entirely so that it no longer poses a threat to Israeli civilians.
The Israeli spokesperson also did not provide a specific answer to the host's question about whether the Israeli army's top priority is the complete destruction of "Hamas" or the liberation of all hostages it holds.
Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that the ground operation in Gaza should be the final maneuver because there will be no Hamas afterward, in his words.
The war on Gaza has been ongoing for more than two weeks since Hamas launched the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation, during which the number of casualties and injured has increased, worsening the humanitarian situation in the area, which is still under Israeli bombardment.
The toll of Israeli bombardment on Gaza reached 4,651 dead as of yesterday, Sunday, including 1,873 children, 1,023 women, and 187 elderly people, in addition to 14,245 injured with various wounds, not to mention the massive destruction in residential areas and infrastructure and the state of mass displacement.
