French media reported on Sunday evening that the outgoing president Emmanuel Macron won the second round of the presidential elections against his competitor Marine Le Pen.
The media stated that Macron received 58.2% of the votes, while Marine Le Pen received 41.8%, emphasizing that these results came according to estimates conducted by the Ipsos Sopra Institute.
After failing to enter the Élysée, Marine Le Pen said from the Pavillon de Armenonville in the sixteenth district of Paris: "The great winds of freedom could have blown over the country. The fate of the ballot boxes decided otherwise."
She added, "The ideas we represent have reached their peak.. The result itself represents a resounding victory.. Millions of our citizens chose the National Rally and change."
Le Pen confirmed in her speech that she will continue her commitments to France and the French people.
After his victory in the elections, Macron became the first president to be re-elected since Jacques Chirac in 2002 and the first president to be re-elected outside a cohabitation period with a government from a different political side since the start of selecting the head of state by direct popular vote in 1962.
