French Finance Minister, Bruno Le Maire, confirmed in press statements today, Tuesday, that gas prices and energy costs will rise significantly at the beginning of next year coinciding with the arrival of winter, adding that the French government is capable of containing this anticipated increase in gas prices.
The French official pointed out that the government will continue to reduce taxes to make France an industrial country, and that citizens must rationalize consumption to help contain the anticipated gas price crisis.
Earlier, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, confirmed during his call with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, that France supports joint gas purchases in Europe to make prices cheaper, adding that his country also supports imposing a cap on Russian gas and energy prices.
The French official continued that if the European Commission moves to make a decision regarding setting a cap on Russian gas prices in the coming period, France will certainly support this measure.
