A number of former Israeli army officers have submitted a petition to the Supreme Court of Israel to declare that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "unfit" to perform his duties.

According to the "Times of Israel" website, among those who submitted the petition are the former Chiefs of Staff, Moshe Ya'alon and Dan Halutz.

It added: "The petition is based on several reasons including: Netanyahu is in a conflict of interest due to corruption charges, and because of his role in the failures that occurred before and after October 7."

The petitioners also said that "there are indications that Netanyahu is in poor health."

On January 22, the Israeli Knesset voted against a motion of no confidence in Netanyahu, with only 18 out of 120 members voting in favor of the proposal submitted by the Labor Party.

A poll by the "Maariv" newspaper, conducted a few days ago, showed a decline in Netanyahu's popularity among Israelis, while the popularity of the Minister in the War Cabinet, Benny Gantz, more than tripled.

According to the results, 52 percent voted for Benny Gantz to lead the government, compared to 32 percent for Netanyahu.

Critics say Netanyahu failed to recover the hostages held in the Gaza Strip after several months since the events of October 7, pointing out that the declared goal (eliminating Hamas) is impossible to achieve.
