Ford Motor Corp, the second largest car manufacturer in the United States, has announced its intention to invest $3 billion in Canada as part of efforts to increase production of its Super Duty light truck from the F-Super Duty family.
This investment will add a third assembly plant for Ford's vehicles in North America at the Oakville facility in Ontario, Canada, to meet the increasing demand for its vehicles and support its plan known as Ford Plus to enhance its profit growth.
Ted Cannis, the company's CEO, noted the sustainable demand for Super Duty from Ford Pro vehicle customers, with sustained high spending on infrastructure projects and related construction activities. Many individual customers are unable to receive their new trucks as quickly as needed due to the production shortfall against high demand.
The new investment plan in Canada includes $2.3 billion for establishing an assembly line and integrated forming operations at the Oakville facility. Upon completion of the project, the facility will become a fully flexible plant.
Ford will begin producing F-Super Duty trucks in 2026, with an initial production capacity of 100,000 trucks.
The new investment will provide approximately 1,800 jobs at the industrial complex and 150 jobs at the Windsor engine plant, which will increase its production of V8 engines used in the Super Duty truck. It will also add nearly 70 jobs and additional working hours at component plants in the United States.
