The Scottish National Party raised another vote on a ceasefire in Gaza in the coming days in the House of Commons, in a new challenge to the Speaker, Lindsay Hoyle, and the Scottish Labour Party, after scenes of chaos that occurred last Wednesday during the first vote in the House of Commons.

According to the British newspaper The Guardian, the Scottish Parliament Speaker faced calls to resign after his decision to break precedent and allow the Scottish Labour Party to hold a vote during a debate with the Scottish National Party calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, which led Conservative and Scottish Nationalist MPs to withdraw.

The leader of the Scottish National Party, Stephen Flynn, said he wants to "refocus during the vote to do everything we can to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza."

Flynn said he will pressure the UK Parliament "to support concrete measures to achieve an actual immediate ceasefire," although it is unlikely that a vote by British MPs will make a fundamental difference in ending the conflict between the two parties.

These measures may include calling on the UK to use diplomatic pressure, including using its position in the United Nations Security Council to support a ceasefire instead of abstaining from voting, as it has done previously.

The proposal may also include calling for a freeze on arms sales to Israel, which is unlikely to be supported by other parties and raises the possibility of another split in the Scottish Labour Party.

The Scottish National Party proposes to halt all transfers of military equipment and technology, including components, to Israel, and suspend issuing new licenses, as the Scottish National Party wrote to all party leaders to discuss the contents of the proposal.

Flynn said: "We are keen to get as many votes as possible for a ceasefire in Gaza, and to pressure the government to implement our demands."

The Scottish National Party said it will publish the details of the vote with concrete measures on Monday after discussions with the Speaker about the specific conditions for discussion and voting.

This step comes as the leader of the Scottish National Party and First Minister of Scotland Hamza Yousuf has called on the UK government to stop arming Israel.

In an interview with Middle East Eye, Yousuf said: "I cannot see any justification for arming the Israeli government considering the destruction we have seen."

He added: "I think the UK government needs to stop arming Israel; I cannot be clearer on this given some of the horrific scenes we have seen which undoubtedly constitute violations of humanitarian law.
