The federal government stated that it will not decide to cancel the carbon tax despite inflation conditions, according to House of Commons Speaker Stephen McNeil.

The federal government had announced last week a rebranding of the carbon tax, renaming it the Canadian Carbon Discount, and this announcement came before the increase in the carbon tax at the beginning of next April.

The federal government has been under pressure to completely cancel the carbon price or to suspend it temporarily, which is the policy followed by the Liberals.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre had demanded the repeal of the carbon tax.

Canadian Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre had previously been continuously seeking to make Canadian Prime Minister

Justin Trudeau cancel the carbon tax, and in renewing his call on this matter this time, he received unusual support from Liberal MP Ken McDonald.

He was the only Liberal member who gave his support to this proposal, while it was overwhelmingly rejected by 209 votes against 119 votes, with McDonald being the sole vote in favor of Poilievre.

In 2022, McDonald had given his support to the opposition in their demands directed at the Liberal federal government, which responded to the request of the Liberal governor "Andrew Furey" for Newfoundland and Labrador to also cancel the carbon tax regarding home heating fuel.

It is noteworthy that Trudeau stated that the impact of climate change requires more attention than anything else and requires continued struggle to combat climate change, and attempts to recover funds in this regard.
