Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, after her separation from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, issued a book titled Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other about mental health.

According to an article published by Elle magazine in October 2023, Sophie is stepping back from politics and focusing on advocating for mental health after her 18-year marriage to Trudeau.

A portion of the book's description on the publisher's website states: Sophie Grégoire Trudeau invites readers on a deep personal journey towards self-knowledge, acceptance, and empowerment relying on the experiences of leading psychologists, psychiatrists, scientists, and thought leaders."

The book also includes personal stories from Sophie's life addressing her struggles with eating disorders, her career as a speaker and TV host, and her time as the actual "First Lady" and mother of three children.

Why did Sophie Trudeau want to write this book?

Sophie Trudeau said, "I am honored to be able to share with readers the knowledge, tools, and stories that will help people be better equipped to deal with their emotions and the obstacles they face in their daily lives. By sharing part of my own mental health journey, I hope it will help encourage others to see how deeply connected we all are as human beings."

She spoke about her struggle with an eating disorder, how it could have hindered her career, and how that moment was a turning point in her life.

Now, after her separation from Trudeau, she wants this book to help people develop tools to deal with suffering.

Who is mentioned in the book?

The book contains interviews with experts on a variety of topics related to mental health.

Among the experts quoted in the book are Gabor Maté, a Canadian doctor and author and expert on the effects of psychological trauma and how it affects physical and mental health among other topics; Liz Plank, a Canadian author and journalist known for her talk on issues surrounding feminism and toxic masculinity; and Catherine Price, a health and science journalist and self-help book author.

The book's promotional site includes endorsements, including recommendations from former Secretary of State and American presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, alongside interviews with the author Plank and Maté.

Book release

The book is scheduled to be released on April 23, 2024, priced at $40, and digitally for $16.99.
