The European Union and Canada agreed to formalize their cooperation on sanctioning Russia and combating Russian attempts to circumvent sanctions, and also affirmed their determination to continue supporting Ukraine militarily.
The joint statement issued by the European Union and Canada at the conclusion of the summit held in Canada stated: "In support of our policy objectives, we will continue to impose expanded sanctions on Russia, as well as to establish strict controls and restrictions on exports. We also reaffirm our commitment to strengthening our cooperation on combating sanctions evasion.
The broader part of the statement was dedicated to Ukraine, and included a pledge to continue assisting it financially and militarily, to cooperate on training Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers, and to seek to mobilize broad international support to reach a comprehensive, just, and fair settlement,” and to a lasting peace in Ukraine, based on the so-called "Zelensky formula".
