The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta clarified that if Eid falls on a Friday, the default is to hold Friday prayers in the mosques, and "whoever finds it difficult to attend or wants to take the concession to skip it, he may do so."
The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta affirmed, citing the saying of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم on this matter: "Two Eids have come together on your day, so whoever wishes may replace it with Friday prayer, and we are gathered."
Dar al-Ifta stressed the necessity of performing the Dhuhr prayer instead, and that the opinion that both Friday and Dhuhr prayers are dropped with the Eid prayer is not acceptable.
For his part, Sheikh Oweida Osman, the Fatwa Secretary at the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta, said in a televised statement: "Whoever suffices with only the Eid prayer must perform the Dhuhr prayer because it is possible to skip the Friday prayer but the Dhuhr cannot be skipped because it is obligatory."
