The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported on Sunday evening that Israeli soldiers died inside hospitals due to infection with a deadly bacteria while being treated for injuries sustained during fighting in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Association of Infectious Disease Physicians announced on Sunday the discovery of various strains of resistant bacteria and fungal contaminants among soldiers who were injured during the fighting in the Gaza Strip and returned to receive treatment in Israeli hospitals.

The Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" quoted the head of the Israeli Association of Infectious Disease Physicians, Professor Galia Rahav, as saying: "We have received data from all Israeli hospitals that provided treatment to soldiers injured during the fighting in Gaza indicating that they carry different types of resistant bacteria and fungal contaminants, which are antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Rahav added that these types of bacteria were mainly found among soldiers who were injured in the limbs.

She continued, saying: "We noticed this among soldiers who recently returned from the front line.. contact with the soil and mud there leads to exposure to many types of bacteria, as well as cases of mold."

She stated that this phenomenon is similar to that which affected American soldiers during the Gulf War when they returned with many types of resistant fungal contaminants, while this is the first time Israeli doctors witness such cases among soldiers.

She went on to say: "We have not seen such cases before during previous wars," which reflects on the duration of treatment for wounded soldiers and the necessity of surgical intervention in some cases to remove the layer of infected tissue.

Professor Rahav pointed out that the Israeli medical system is aware of the presence of these types of resistant bacteria in the Gaza Strip through joint research conducted with Palestinian doctors there and through treating children who arrived from the Strip to receive treatment in Israeli hospitals.

She confirmed that a large portion of the contaminants and bacteria diagnosed among the injured soldiers are discovered from time to time inside Israel in persons who contracted them during their stay in hospitals.

The Israeli newspaper recently talked about the high rates of intestinal diseases among Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip and quoted experts and doctors as saying the cause is the food and provisions donated to the soldiers without being subject to health supervision during preparation and transport.

On the 73rd day of the war in Gaza, the Israeli forces continue their attacks throughout the Strip, while the humanitarian situation deteriorates more and more.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the number of deaths exceeded 18,800, in addition to more than 51,000 others injured since last October 7.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced an increase in its death toll in battles in the Gaza Strip to 454.
