Doctors and medical associations have warned about the dangers of the proposed changes, which were raised last week in the 2024 budget, that will alter the way capital gains tax is imposed on certain individuals and businesses.

The taxes will affect individuals whose income exceeds $250,000, but this shift will be applied to all profits generated by companies.

Kathleen Ross, President of the Canadian Medical Association, stated to the Canadian press in this regard that many doctors are working to integrate their medical practices and are investing in their retirement within their companies.

The association pointed out that this situation will create financial pressures on doctors who do not have a pension they can rely on for their living costs.

Freeland mentioned regarding whether doctors should receive exemptions from the proposed budget changes that it is fair to ask those who can earn well to contribute more than others.

Freeland also focused on discussing other investments in the budget that emphasize healthcare, including student loan exemptions for nurses and doctors working in remote communities and a framework for drug coverage to include contraception and diabetes medications.

She added that these measures would be beneficial for those working in the medical field, and she supported the new taxes to provide adequate funding for investments.

Freeland declared: Healthcare professionals in Canada know better than anyone else how important these investments are.
