A couple was shocked when they learned that Air Canada had donated their bag to a charity, months after tracking their lost luggage using the AirTag app and trying to retrieve their belongings.

Nakita Rees, a dancer and choreographer from Ontario, used TikTok to describe her problem after returning from her honeymoon in Greece.

Rees explained that after the plane carrying her and her husband landed in Montreal, they had to recheck their bags for their flight to Toronto, and after arriving at Toronto Pearson Airport, Rees recovered her bag but her husband did not find his.

After filling out a report about the lost bag, they checked the AirTag device, which showed that the bag was still in Montreal, where it stayed for four weeks.

When they saw their bag being transported from Montreal to Etobicoke, they said they were optimistic, assuming the bag was heading to the baggage warehouse, but the AirTag app showed that the bag was in a residential complex.

Upon checking the app again, it was clear that their bag had ended up in the baggage warehouse, where it stayed for three months, so the couple finally decided to go to the warehouse and try to find their bag.

There, the couple was shocked by what they discovered: their luggage had been donated to a charity, as it was considered lost property.

Rees has not been able to find out the name of the charity so far, but Air Canada compensated them for a quarter of her husband's clothing value by sending an electronic bank transfer to her account.

For her part, Rees urges anyone who faces such a situation not to stay silent and to continue complaining and emailing the airline’s executives, because she believes the company will not change its policies and approach until a sufficient number of people start raising their voices and filing complaints.
