Ottawa - Newly released documents show that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau received warnings about the complexities of the "Build Back Better" plans due to the pandemic that could lead to economic uncertainty..
The idea of addressing the economic shortcomings revealed by the pandemic has become a rallying cry for Canada and many of its allies, such as the United States.
While there is a significant focus on strengthening collapsed supply chains and building local capacity to produce essential goods, the "Build Back Better" plan also aims to address the digital and green economic shifts accelerated by the pandemic.
The briefing file presented by the Prime Minister indicates that governments looking to "Build Back Better" may create "a state of uncertainty regarding rules and standards, create market distortions, and reduce a level playing field."
The document also highlights the combined impact of high government debt burdens, inflation, and rising interest rates that may impede "Build Back Better" efforts.
The documents were issued to the Canadian press under the Access to Information Act, days before the conclusion of consultations on this year’s federal budget.
