Libyan media reported, citing a government source, that Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, has dismissed Najlaa Mangoush, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from her position.
Yesterday, news circulated about a meeting between Najlaa Mangoush, the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Eli Cohen, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Italy last week, where the two discussed various issues and topics, in addition to how to preserve Jewish heritage in Libya.
However, the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied in a statement all rumors regarding this meeting, confirming that Minister Najlaa Mangoush refused to hold a meeting or session with the occupying representative, in order to preserve the Arab and Islamic nation, and emphasized that the country remains largely committed to issues that concern Arabs and will not abandon them for any reason, with the Palestinian issue being one of the most important matters.
In the past few hours, Libya witnessed some questions regarding the suspension of Najlaa Mangoush, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from her work on a provisional basis and her referral for urgent investigation by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government.
This strict decision against the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs was taken after the official Israeli site reported that Eli Cohen, the Israeli Foreign Minister, met with her in Italy last week, and they discussed many matters to enhance potential cooperation between the two countries in the future, despite the formal severing of relations between Libya and Israel.
The Israeli site added that Antonio Tajani, the Italian Foreign Minister, mediated the meeting held between Mangoush and Cohen, during which they had many conversations and discussions regarding humanitarian issues and potential water management, in addition to how to preserve Jewish customs and heritage within Libyan territory.
However, the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement denying all the claims and statements made by the Israeli Foreign Ministry on its official platforms regarding the meeting between Najlaa Mangoush and Eli Cohen, stating: "Our Foreign Minister rejected any meetings between her and the Israeli diplomat, but an unofficial and unplanned encounter did occur between them," as some claim.
