Sudan has witnessed a concerning rise in the number of cases of dengue fever and acute diarrhea, as the war has led to the closure of a hundred hospitals, and has prompted a call to halt the "catastrophic spread" that has caused "hundreds of deaths," according to the Sudanese Doctors' Syndicate.

According to the syndicate, the Qadarif state, located on the border with Ethiopia, is the hardest hit by dengue fever, experiencing a "catastrophic spread of dengue fever throughout the state... resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of infections.

This year's rainy season in Sudan, which every year witnesses the spread of malaria or dengue fever epidemics, has become more lethal after more than five months of war between the army led by Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.

Dengue fever is considered the most widespread viral disease in the world transmitted by mosquitoes, according to the World Health Organization, which warned that global warming could lead to an increase in the number of dengue fever cases around the world, putting half of the world's population at risk.

So what is dengue fever, what are its symptoms, and how can you protect yourself?
