Singer and actress Olivia Newton-John, who was famous for her role as Sandy in the film "Grease," died at the age of 73, according to her husband.
John Easterling announced that Newton-John "passed away peacefully" at her farm in Southern California on Monday morning, surrounded by family and friends.
Easterling said in a post on Newton-John's official Instagram and Facebook accounts: "We ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time."
The cause of death has not been disclosed, but Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 which recurred in 2017.
Newton-John starred in the 1978 film "Grease" with "You’re the One That I Want," a duet with John Travolta from the film’s soundtrack, which spent nearly six months on the American music charts.
The British-born Australian star was a prominent figure on the music charts with songs such as the 1981 "Physical" from the film "Xanadu," which became number 1 in that decade, according to Billboard.
Olivia was also a symbol of victories and hope for more than 30 years as she shared her journey with breast cancer.
