The police are scheduled to provide new information about human remains of a Toronto man that were found inside a hockey bag floating in a pond last spring. The story dates back to May 10, when the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) was called to a rural area in Uxbridge, near Oak Ridges Corridor Road 6 and Albright Road, after a local resident found human remains, where Ontario Forensic Services confirmed that the remains belong to Ariel Kaplan, 32, from Toronto, adding that the victim was reported missing in August 2021.
Months before his death, in May 2021, Kaplan was charged with two counts of possessing property exceeding $5,000 in value and stealing a trailer carrying nearly $250,000 worth of juice bottles.
Doris Carrier, a sergeant from the DRPS Major Crimes Unit, will hold a press conference to provide more information about the investigation on Monday at 10:30 a.m. The Durham homicide unit is also working alongside the Toronto police homicide and missing persons units on this investigation.
