A 27-year-old man from Petawawa, Ontario, is facing charges of manslaughter in connection with the death of 29-year-old Jordana Yakabuskie following an incident on Highway 17 near Renfrew.

A 29-year-old woman from Petawawa died, and a 27-year-old man faces several charges, including manslaughter, after an incident on Highway 17 near Renfrew.

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, February 19, Jordana Yakabuskie was transported by car to Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) sometime after the incident between 8 p.m. and midnight.

Arrangements were made for ORNGE and Renfrew County paramedics to transfer the victim to the Ottawa Trauma Centre. However, both services were canceled when the victim was pronounced dead at RVH early Sunday morning. A call was made by the medical staff to the Crown Attorney's office to inform them of her death.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the incident occurred on the highway late Saturday night where an altercation and scuffle reportedly broke out between passengers in a passenger vehicle resulting in Yakabuskie’s fatal injuries.

The incident occurred along the highway between Goshen Road and Lochwinnot / Gillan Road (County Road 6).

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) closed this section of the highway shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday morning and it was not reopened until 2:30 p.m.

As a result of the investigation, Cole Allard, also from Petawawa, was charged with manslaughter and dangerous driving causing death. He remains in custody and a bail hearing is scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on February 22.

Local police remained at the scene until additional Crown Attorney members arrived to assist with the investigation. The Renfrew OPP Crime Unit, with assistance from the Forensic Identification Services Unit, and the OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI), continue the investigation into the incident, under the supervision of the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch and in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario.

An autopsy will be conducted.

Renfrew OPP is asking anyone who was driving in the Highway 17 area between Gillan Road and Goshen Road, Horton Township, on Saturday, February 19, 2022, between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., or if you have camera footage, please contact Renfrew OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
