Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane, who played a forensic psychologist in the TV series "Cracker" and the giant Hagrid in the "Harry Potter" films, has died at the age of 72. Belinda Wright, Coltrane's agent, said he passed away on Friday at a hospital in Scotland, but did not give the cause of death. Coltrane was also known for playing a violent detective in the 1990s series "Cracker," for which he won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor three years in a row following his outstanding performance in the role. Additionally, Coltrane played the kind half-giant Hagrid, wizard boy Harry Potter's mentor, in all eight Harry Potter films released between 2001 and 2011. Also, the late actor's other roles included playing a Russian crime boss in the James Bond thrillers "GoldenEye" and "The World Is Not Enough." Similarly, Coltrane received good reviews for playing a beloved TV star who might be hiding a mysterious secret in the 2016 mini-series "National Treasure." Wright, his agent, said, “In addition to being a great actor, Coltrane was brilliantly smart,” adding, “After 40 years of pride, he will be missed.” Wright stated that Coltrane has a family consisting of his sister Annie Rae, his ex-wife Rona Gemill, and his two children Spencer and Alice.
