Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on his way to Southeast Asia to hold a series of summits aimed at deepening Canada’s presence in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

He is joined by Trade Minister Mary Ng and Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, with the first stop in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.

Trudeau will also arrive today at the ASEAN Leaders Summit, a group of 10 countries negotiating a trade agreement with Canada.

He will head to Indonesia on Monday to attend the G20 summit in Bali, where he will pressure the world’s largest economies to isolate Russia because of its invasion of Ukraine.

The summit aims to focus on strengthening health systems, as well as enhancing food and energy security, which Trudeau says Russia has undermined.

Trudeau is also scheduled to stop overnight in Bangkok, Thailand, to meet with fellow leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation group before heading to Tunisia.
