The company "De Havilland" for aircraft manufacturing confirmed yesterday afternoon that it intends to build a factory in the Calgary area, the largest city in the province of Alberta in western Canada.
The company, which recently moved its headquarters from Toronto, the capital of Ontario and Canada's largest city, to Calgary, says that its new complex will include assembly lines, an airport, offices, and even a museum, and will employ more than 1,500 people.
"We tried to find out if it was possible to build an aviation complex in the Toronto area, but it was not economically feasible," explained De Havilland's vice president Neil Sweeney, adding that "land prices are very high" in the Toronto area.
Sweeney said that Alberta offers more growth opportunities for the company thanks to its younger and more abundant workforce.
"De Havilland" is not unfamiliar with Calgary; it has facilities there for manufacturing the "DHC-515" aircraft.
