A ceremony is scheduled to be held today, Monday, to commemorate the deadly attack that took place in 2017 on a mosque in the city of Quebec.
Six Muslim men were killed and five others injured when an armed man stormed the Islamic Cultural Center in the city of Quebec shortly after evening prayer on January 29, 2017.
The organizers say the event aims to honor the memory of the dead and show support for their families, as well as for the survivors of the attack.
The ceremony will be held at 6 PM at the center and will be broadcast online.
This will be followed by a series of open events at the mosque aimed at building relationships with the broader community in the city of Quebec.
In 2021, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared January 29 a national day to commemorate the attack on the Quebec City mosque and to work against Islamophobia.
