The police say at least five people were killed and 19 were taken to hospitals after a shooting at a parade on July 4th in a suburb of Chicago.
The shooting in Highland Park disrupted the parade after it started at 10 a.m. on Monday.
Highland Park police said in a statement that five people were killed and 19 were taken to hospitals.
It is unclear whether the five killed were among the 19 taken to the hospital.
The police say authorities are still searching for the suspect and described it as an active incident.
Meanwhile, authorities said Monday that police are responding to a shooting at a parade during July 4th celebrations in a Chicago suburb.
There have been no official reports of casualties, but witnesses described seeing bloodied bodies covered with blankets while hundreds of people ran seeking safety.
More than 35 people had been shot in Chicago during the Independence Day holiday, resulting in five being fatally shot.
A 24-year-old woman was killed Friday night during a shootout between two men in the city's Chinatown area, and four people were injured in West Garfield Park when a man walking nearby opened fire on a group of people.
A 30-year-old man was fatally shot in the head on the city's South Side early Saturday.
The shooting came the same day Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot held a press conference expressing her thanks and appreciation for the city's police officers.
On Sunday, a 24-year-old man was killed early when a gunman opened fire on a crowd gathered in a backyard on the South Side.
