An official Iranian TV channel was clearly hacked yesterday, Saturday, as the news broadcast was cut off with a phrase attacking the country's leader.
An image of a mask appeared on the screen followed by a picture of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei surrounded by flames. Behind this hacking operation stands a group calling itself "Justice of Ali".
This comes after at least three people were shot dead during clashes between protesters and Iranian security forces, in new unrest following the death of Mahsa Amini.
Amini was detained by the morality police for allegedly not wearing the hijab properly.
The Saturday news broadcast was cut off around 18:00 local time, showing images of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution with a mark on his head, and pictures of Mahsa and three women recently killed in the latest protests.
One of the phrases that appeared on the screen said, "Join us and revolt," while another said, "The blood of our youth drips from your hands."
The hacking lasted several seconds before the channel resumed broadcasting.
On Friday, the Iranian Forensic Medicine Organization said Mahsa died due to failure of several of her body organs caused by cerebral hypoxia, not due to head blows as her family and protesters claimed.
Human rights groups say that more than 150 people have been killed since the protests began in the Islamic Republic on last September 17.
