The Ford government has recently implemented driver-friendly policies by canceling license plate renewal fees, removing some tolls from highways, and reducing the gasoline tax.

But there is another common complaint that the government seems ready to address: discrimination based on postal code, with many drivers upset that their premiums may increase depending on where they live, even if they have a clean driving record without accidents.

At a press conference on Thursday, Premier Doug Ford appeared ready to tackle this issue, describing insurance premiums based on where you live as "unfair" and said they might be coming to an end.

He said, "I know we are working on a plan for insurance companies, as far as I am concerned, this is completely unfair to the residents of Brampton, Scarborough, they are chasing these people based on their postal code. That will end very quickly."

"They have to treat people fairly." Matt Hands, insurance director at RateHub, an insurance comparison site, told CTV News Toronto that "it doesn’t make sense for someone with a clean driving record to pay more just because they live in a certain area."

The Ford government also said it plans to eliminate insurance fraud, create more options for consumers, and enhance fairness in the system.
