Mary Simon, the Governor General of Canada, received a significant salary increase, once again, which Canadians have expressed their dissatisfaction with.
A recent report was issued by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, a non-profit organization focused on lowering taxes, stating that Simon received a new salary increase of $11,200 during the year 2024.
This increase is the third raise during the current year and since her appointment in 2021, with her salary raised during 2024 to reach $362,800.
Franco Terrazano, the federal director, commented in this regard that Canadians are struggling and fighting to buy a carton of milk, etc.; therefore, the government should not succumb to another increase for the Governor General.
The organization had monitored an increase in the Governor General's salary of $60,000, or 20%, since 2019, in addition to several privileges she received, including a taxpayer-funded palace, a platinum pension, a generous retirement allowance, a special clothing and travel expense budget, including paid dry cleaning services.
It is noteworthy that Canadians were angry last year about Simon's salary increase which reached $9,500, and what provoked their anger was a limousine bill that amounted to $71,000 during 2022, in addition to expensive travel and transportation expenses.
