For some Canadians, 2024 will see an increase in the minimum wage in the province or territory they reside in, boosting their salaries.
One province will see multiple minimum wage increases during 2024, while Alberta has gone the longest without a minimum wage increase, with its last increase in June 2019.
Below is a summary of the places in Canada that will or will not raise the minimum wage in 2024, according to the Canadian government.
Provinces that will raise wages in 2024
New Brunswick will see the minimum wage rise to $15.30 on April 1, and Yukon will raise the minimum wage to $17.59 on April 1.
As for Newfoundland and Labrador, the minimum wage will increase to $15.60 per hour on April 1, and the minimum wage in Nova Scotia will jump to $15.20 per hour on April 1.
Prince Edward Island will see two minimum wage increases in 2024, reaching $15.40 on April 1 and $16 on October 1, and Saskatchewan will see the minimum wage rise to $15 on October 1.
Provinces that will not raise wages in 2024
Alberta will not raise the minimum wage, with the last time the province did so on June 26, 2019, at $15 per hour.
The Northwest Territories will also not see a minimum wage increase, with the last time being September 1, 2023, to $16.05 per hour.
Nunavut will not raise the minimum wage, with the last time being April 1, 2020, to $16 per hour.
Ontario will also not raise the minimum wage, with the last time being October 1, 2023, to $16.55 per hour.
British Columbia will also not raise the minimum wage, with the last time being June 1, 2023, to $16.75 per hour.
Finally, Quebec will not raise the minimum wage, with the last time being May 1, 2023, to $15.25 per hour.
The federal minimum wage is also set to remain stagnant, with its latest increase on April 1, 2023, raising the minimum wage per hour to $16.65.
