Conrad von, the Canadian Ethics Commissioner, commented on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's recent vacation to Jamaica with his family, stating that Trudeau consulted his office before his vacation and one of the conditions was to accept the residence place for him and his family during the trip, which was gifted to him by a family friend.

Von said during his testimony before the Ethics Committee of the House of Commons regarding gifts and trips that Trudeau had consulted them and they advised him, and if there were any unacceptable gifts, we would have had to report them on our part, while nothing was reported. Trudeau’s office did not confirm the location of the holiday for Trudeau and his family, while the National Post newspaper mentioned that Trudeau and his family stayed during their vacation in a villa owned by a family friend, "Peter Green," a businessman rented at high amounts, and it is part of a resort owned by the businessman.

Trudeau had defended his vacation after a severe attack against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding his recent holiday in Jamaica, for which the Conservatives accused him of exploiting important funds and wasting millions for spending his and his family’s vacation in Jamaica during Christmas. The Ethics Committee in the House of Commons then decided to listen to the testimony of the Federal Ethics Watchdog regarding procedures, gifts, travel, and trips. This procedure came following increased controversy about Trudeau and his family’s recent trip to Jamaica for Christmas vacation.

At that time, members of the Ethics Committee in the House of Commons announced the summons of Acting Commissioner Conrad von to testify, upon the return of the House of Commons from the winter break.

The Liberals also declared their approval to summon von if his testimony included a detailed explanation of the travel laws and principles stipulated in the Conflict of Interest Act. Liberal MP Moni Fortier said it was necessary for the citizen to be informed about how their leaders work to earn trust in their institutions.

The Federal Ethics Committee previously announced holding a soon meeting regarding an anticipated investigation into Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s vacation spent in Jamaica with his family, which cost $84,000. Trudeau’s office stated that this trip was a gift from a family friend where Trudeau and his family spent their vacation at businessman Peter Green’s resort in Jamaica, who provided Trudeau and his family with free accommodation. It is known that this place is rented at $9,300 per night.

On another side, Trudeau’s office had earlier mentioned that Trudeau would cover all costs of his and his family's vacation to Jamaica.

Trudeau’s office also added that the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner was consulted to comment on this trip before traveling, to ensure the authorization to make the trip.

It is noteworthy that Michael Barrett, the Conservative MP and member of the Ethics Committee, previously posted a video via X saying that the group will meet to investigate Trudeau and his family’s holiday, and it was also mentioned on the House of Commons website that there would be a meeting to discuss whether Trudeau and his family’s vacation to Jamaica will be considered.
