Canada announced on Thursday the launch of a new immigration program that allows granting Ukrainians fleeing the war temporary resident permits for up to three years.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Sean Fraser said that applications for emergency travel permits between Canada and Ukraine are now open.
The Canadian government explained in a statement that those wishing to use this "special and expedited means to obtain temporary residence" must submit their applications and biometric data (fingerprints and photo) online.
Ukrainian refugees can also apply for work and study permits.
According to statistics issued by the United Nations on Thursday, more than three million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion began on February 24, with more than half seeking refuge in Poland.
