Canadian Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez and the police said that a "threat" against Air India is being investigated.

It is worth noting that the leader of the Sikh Movement for Justice, Gurbatwant Singh Pannu, can be heard in an online video warning people traveling on Air India on November 19.

The final match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup is scheduled to be held on November 19, with India hosting the Cricket World Cup. Pannu also mentioned this in his video.

Rodriguez also said in a social media post that the government takes any threat to aviation seriously.

Canada and its security partners have investigated the latest threats circulating online.

In the same context, police spokesperson Kristen Kelly said that the police are cooperating with local and international partners and industry stakeholders in investigating the threat against Air India flights.

CBC News contacted the Indian High Commission in Ottawa regarding a potential threat to Air India flights and asked if they are working with Canadian authorities on this matter, but they have not yet responded.

In an interview with CBC News, Pannu said his comments may have been misunderstood or deleted in the past. Pannu added that he calls for a boycott of Air India and other companies that support the Indian government.

Also in the interview, Pannu said that the community facing an existential threat under India should not promote any Indian company, including Air India, because that would endanger their lives and future generations.

Pannu continued that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has full authority to investigate the terrorist threat. And if they believe that calling for a boycott of Air India is terrorism, so be it.

In 2005, a Canadian government report concluded that the 1985 Air India bombings that killed 331 people were planned and executed in Canada by Sikh separatists.

Bomb-maker Inderjit Singh Reyat was convicted in this case.
