Canada resumes its funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), according to an announcement by Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussein on Friday afternoon.

Canada and other allies had suspended funding amid allegations that some UNRWA staff were involved in the Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, 2023.

According to a statement from Hussein's office, while the final report from the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) is not conclusive, UNRWA has taken measures to enhance oversight, accountability, and transparency.

The statement from Minister Hussein's office said that "Canada will work with its fellow donors, the United Nations, and UNRWA to ensure the full implementation of the recommendations resulting from the Office of Internal Oversight Services investigation and the independent review."

Canada also supports the Jordanian government and the World Food Programme, which are conducting air drops to Gaza to deliver critically needed supplies.

The government is providing funding of $100,000 to purchase supplies of food, blankets, and winter clothing.
