The Canadian Minister of Environment called for a response to the statement of the United Nations Secretary-General who called on developed countries to "impose taxes on profits for fossil fuel companies."
The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, described in a speech before the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, the climate crisis as a typical case of moral and economic injustice, noting that the G20 produces 80% of total greenhouse gas emissions.
In contrast, Canadian Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault showed no interest in imposing taxes on the extraordinary profits of oil companies.
Justifying this by saying, "I think the Secretary-General was also talking about the fact that these companies should play their role in combating climate change."
