The Canadian national football team came very close to qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar 2022 after defeating the host El Salvador team 2-0 early Thursday in the eleventh round of the third round of the North and Central American and Caribbean qualifiers (CONCACAF).
Atiba Hutchinson scored the first goal for Canada in the 66th minute, then Jonathan David confirmed Canada’s victory by scoring the second goal in added time.
The Canadian team achieved their seventh victory in the qualifiers with four draws and an undefeated record, while El Salvador suffered their sixth defeat against two wins and three draws.
Canada raised its total points at the top to 25, while El Salvador's total stopped at nine points in sixth place.
