Canada's national team reclaimed the gold medal in the women's ice hockey competitions at the Winter Olympic Games by defeating the American team 3-2 today, Thursday, in the final match.
Canada avenged its loss in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic final and won against the American team in the final of the current edition of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Natalie Spooner opened the scoring for the Canadian team during the early minutes, before the goal was canceled due to offside.
But the Canadian team succeeded in scoring two consecutive goals by Sarah Nurse and captain Marie-Philip Poulin.
Poulin scored her second goal and for Canada, then Hilary Knight responded with a goal for the American team, and her teammate Amanda Kessel added the second goal.
Canada participated in the final of the women's ice hockey competitions in all seven previous editions of the Olympics, since the sport was added to the Olympic agenda in 1998.
Canada won its fifth gold medal in the Olympics, while the American team won the other two medals.
