Quebec will launch a new regional strategy to prevent suicide, after two decades of the first action plan.
The goal is to reduce the number of deaths from suicide by at least 10 percent by 2026, to make the province have fewer than 1,000 annual suicide deaths.
Health and Social Services Minister "Christian Dube" said on Friday that to reach this level, the government will inject 65 million dollars to support various services and programs, and from this amount, 5 million dollars have already been allocated for the period 2021-2022.
The new strategy will include four axes and 13 measures aimed at increasing psychological well-being, reducing the level of psychological distress among the population, and preventing suicide attempts.
Several organizations have called for the implementation of a regional strategy in recent years.
