Drug cartels in South America use Air Canada flights from Colombia to Montreal and Toronto to smuggle hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into the country every year.
This is what the Investigation Bureau learned from a drug dealer in the Sinaloa cartel who swore he regularly ships shipments of coke coal on Air Canada planes between the Colombian capital, Bogotá, and Montreal and Toronto.
According to one of the smugglers who was arrested, "Before 2020, there were no direct Air Canada flights between Bogotá and Montreal. But once they started, we immediately began smuggling operations because it was very easy."
